How to Create a Blog Post in WordPress

Having lots of nice, juicy content in your website is one key ingredient in attracting visitors. All those great keywords written about specific topics will help ensure that people stumble upon your pages. So in this post we’re going to cover how to create a blog post in WordPress. How ironic! The video above and the step-by-steps below will get you started on the process. We’ll cover other specifics, such as creating new categories, adding formatting, and other tips in other upcoming posts.

Creating a Blog Post Step-by-Step:

  1. First things first, let’s click on the “Add New” post button on the left hand side of your WordPress admin area. This brings you to the Post Editor, where you’ll spend a great deal of your time in WordPress, so you’ll be quite familiar with this in no time.

  2. There are four basic steps to creating a blog post:  Title, Content, Category, and Publish.

    1. TITLE: For the title, be sure to give a nice, descriptive title that both has specific keywords to help with SEO, but also that sounds natural to the human ear.

    2. CONTENT: You can then type your content directly into the editor, or you can copy and paste from another application like Microsoft Word. We’ll cover some of the additional formatting options in another video.

    3. CATEGORY: Be sure to always add a category to WordPress post, otherwise it will be listed as “uncategorized”, and that really doesn’t help your visitors. You can choose from the list of categories that have already been created, or you can create a new one (we’ll discuss how to do this in another video).

    4. PUBLISH: Finally, click on the “Publish” button in the right hand side of your screen (actual colors may vary, as the latest version of WordPress has some groovy new color schemes!)

  3. Once you’ve published, you should get a “Post Published” notice at the top of the screen, along with a link to check out your new post. Check ‘er out!
